Product Description

Optical Protection is a protection technology for optical fiber communication networks that can improve network reliability and availability. The principle of optical protection is to use a backup optical path to replace the failed optical path to ensure the normal operation of the network.

Common Optical Protection solutions are as follows:

  • 1+1 Protection: In the 1+1 protection scheme, there is switching between two optical paths. When one optical path fails, the other optical path can be put into use immediately to ensure the normal operation of the network.
  • SN ratio protection: In the SN ratio protection scheme, there is switching between two or more optical paths. When one of the optical paths fails, the network management system will switch based on the signal-to-noise ratio (SN ratio) of the optical path and select the optical path with the highest signal-to-noise ratio to put into use.
  • Ring protection: In the ring protection scheme, multiple optical paths form a ring. When one of the optical paths fails, the optical signal can be switched along the ring to ensure the normal operation of the network.

The typical configuration of Optical Protection is as follows:

  • Fiber optic loop protection: Two optical fibers, two optical switches and two optical transceivers are required.
  • Fiber branch protection: requires one optical fiber, one optical switch and two optical transceivers.
  • Fiber cross protection: Two optical fibers, two optical switches and two optical transceivers are required.
